International federation of journalists expels Russian union
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has decided to expel the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) from its membership, citing the opening of UJR branches in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in 2022.
The UJR said it considers the decision of the International Federation of Journalists “politically motivated and professionally untenable,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the UJR.
The Union added that it does not intend to appeal the decision to the international body.
Vladimir Solovyov, head of the UJR, said the decision was taken at a congress of the federation in Paris.
He noted that the Russian delegation had received an invitation but chose not to attend the meeting, instead sending its position to international colleagues in advance, stating alleged violations of the federation’s own charter principles.
