Moscow lifts mobile internet restrictions

09 May 2026 14:18

Russian authorities have lifted temporary restrictions on mobile internet and text messaging services in Moscow that were introduced during Victory Day from fascism celebrations for security reasons.

According to the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, telecommunications operators have begun restoring full access to regular mobile services for subscribers across the capital, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media

“Temporary restrictions on mobile internet and SMS services in Moscow, imposed for security reasons during Victory Day celebrations, have been lifted,” the ministry said in a statement.

Officials added that a temporary “whitelist” system for website access remained in place but that full access to all online resources would be restored starting at 1:00 p.m. local time.

The ministry also stated that voice calls, home internet connections, and Wi-Fi services continued operating normally throughout the restrictions.

Authorities noted that targeted communication limits could still be introduced in specific situations if immediate security threats arise. In such cases, telecom operators would notify users promptly, the ministry said.
