Emir of Qatar’s $360-million Boeing causes stir at Palma Airport, Mallorca
The landing of the Emir of Qatar’s luxurious Boeing 747-8 BBJ, valued at $360 million, caused a stir at Palma Airport on the Spanish island of Mallorca, according to Supercar Blondie.
Due to the aircraft’s enormous size, airport authorities had to inspect the runway for damage to ensure the tarmac could handle the weight of the jumbo jet. The Boeing 747, the world’s second-largest airliner after the Airbus A380, can only land on Palma Airport’s longest runway, 06L/24R, which measures 3,270 meters. Following the landing, the runway was temporarily closed for technical checks, causing minor flight delays.
The Emir’s Boeing 747 is essentially a “flying palace,” featuring bedrooms, lounges, and luxurious relaxation areas. It accommodates 89 passengers and 14 crew members, with some windows blacked out, reflecting extensive interior modifications.
Experts estimate the aircraft’s value at over $360 million, making it one of the most expensive private jets in the world. Even on a popular tourist island, the arrival of such an aviation giant demands careful infrastructure checks and logistical planning.
