Erdoğan, Putin discuss Türkiye's prospective BRICS membership in Kazan
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed optimism about Türkiye's potential participation in the BRICS initiative.
He made this statement during a meeting at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"I am pleased that you accepted the invitation to the current event in the 'outreach' format or 'BRICS Plus.' I know that Türkiye is interested in establishing close cooperation with the bloc," Putin stated.
He emphasized that Türkiye's participation in BRICS is promising due to its geopolitical role as a bridge between the East and West of Eurasia.
Furthermore, Putin and Erdoğan discussed ongoing efforts to resolve issues in bilateral financial transactions.
Erdoğan noted that both countries are working to eliminate difficulties in banking operations. "Efforts are underway to address problems in banking operations between our countries," he remarked during their bilateral meeting at the BRICS summit, according to Interfax.
The Turkish leader also expressed hope that Putin would visit Türkiye soon, highlighting a recent visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to Türkiye.
"Now, in a very short time, we wish to see you as well, Mr. President, in our country," Erdoğan added.
