EU approves fifth package of financial aid to Ukraine
The European Council agreed on the fifth package of €500 million ($508 million) to Ukraine as military aid. The total amount of such assistance amounted to €2.5 billion ($2.53 billion).
According to Kommersant, the announcement came from European Council President Charles Michel on July 18.
“I welcome the political agreement of the European Council on the fifth package [of aid] for Ukraine under the EFP. EU [European Union] support in the form of military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounts to 2.5 billion euros,” Michel wrote on Twitter.
On July 12, EU Foreign Secretary Stefano Sannino announced that the Union would send €500 million to Ukraine for military needs through a special fund, which had previously allocated €2 billion ($2.03 billion). Sannino explained that for the first time, deliveries of lethal weapons would be financed through the fund.
