EU leaders to discuss possible sanctions against Israel at informal Copenhagen summit
EU leaders will discuss possible sanctions against Israel at an informal summit in Copenhagen, a senior diplomat has said.
The leaders will reportedly meet without their advisers and official note-takers, which means they will be able to address issues on which opinions diverge, Caliber.Az reports, citing Politico.
No joint statement is expected following the informal summit, the diplomat added.
The senior diplomat said European leaders will also discuss possible sanctions against Israel, even though this issue is not on the official agenda.
The summit is an informal meeting of European Union heads of state and government scheduled for 1 October 2025 in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. It comes amid heightened security concerns in Denmark, after several unidentified drones recently violated Danish airspace, leading to temporary airport closures. The summit agenda will focus heavily on defence, security, and support for Ukraine.
