Syrian army destroys SDF operational headquarters east of Aleppo
Forces of Syria’s transitional government shelled positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) east of the city of Aleppo, Al Jazeera reports.
According to the broadcaster, the artillery strike destroyed an SDF operational headquarters that had been located at one of the factories near the town of Maskana.
Earlier, three drones struck an SDF outpost near the Tishrin Dam on the Euphrates River. No information has been provided on casualties among SDF forces.
Earlier in the day, SDF fighters blocked all access routes to the territories under their control along the contact line with the Syrian army. Humanitarian corridors created by the authorities for civilians to leave the area were closed near the town of Deir Hafer on the western bank of the Euphrates.
On January 13, the command of the Syrian Arab Republic’s armed forces declared the area east of Aleppo a closed military zone and accused the SDF of using the city’s surroundings to launch drones that carried out strikes in early January on residential neighbourhoods, Syrian army positions, and internal security forces.
