EU pushes to fast-track tariff talks after Von der Leyen-Trump call
The EU is seeking to fast-track tariff negotiations with the US after a recent phone talk between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump.
“Good call with Trump. The EU and US share the world’s most consequential and close trade relationship. Europe is ready to advance talks swiftly and decisively. To reach a good deal, we would need the time until July 9,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Von der Leyen’s message on X.
On April 2, President Trump implemented a new tariff system on imports from 185 countries. The baseline rate was set at 10 per cent for all imported goods, but certain countries faced significantly higher rates — 34 per cent for China, 46 per cent for Vietnam, and 20 per cent for the EU. Following this, negotiations between Brussels and Washington began to reduce these tariffs.
