EU top diplomat Kallas arrives in Kyiv
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has announced her arrival in Kyiv in a post on X.
At the Kyiv train station, she was met by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Caliber.Az reports.
“Ukrainians inspire the world with their courage. Their resilience calls for our full support. I am in Kyiv today for talks on financial and military support, the security of Ukraine’s energy sector, and holding Russia accountable for its war crimes,” Kallas wrote.
The EU has committed €63 billion in military aid, including €25 billion pledged for 2025 alone, channelled primarily through the European Peace Facility (EPF). This fund reimburses member states for supplying weapons, such as artillery, air defence systems, and tanks, with key contributions from Germany, France, and Poland. The EU also launched a training mission (EUMAM) in 2022, training over 60,000 Ukrainian troops by mid-2025, and is exploring a proposed €40 billion military aid package to counter Russian advances.
The EU has disbursed €53 billion in budgetary support to stabilise Ukraine’s economy, including €35 billion in loans and grants under the Ukraine Facility (2024-2027) to cover public services and reconstruction. A $50 billion G7 loan, backed by frozen Russian assets, was finalised in October 2025, with the EU contributing significantly to help Ukraine bridge a $38 billion financing gap for 2026.
