European Commission releases frozen €137 billion for Poland
01 March 2024 09:51
The European Commission (EC) has unblocked some €137 billion of EU funds for Poland, following the republic's efforts to strengthen the independence of the judiciary.
"The EC has adopted two legal acts that will give Poland access to up to €137 billion," the statement said, according to Gazeta.ru.
The EC concluded that Poland had taken two key steps to reform its judicial system: changing the disciplinary system for judges and using the Arachne browser, which supports EU audit systems.
Under the European Commission decision, Poland will receive up to €59.8 billion from the pandemic fund and up to €76.5 billion from the cohesion fund. The first payments are expected in the coming weeks.
