Event on Azerbaijan's landmine problem held within COP28 in Dubai
An event dedicated to Azerbaijan's mine problem was held in Dubai within the framework of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).
Vugar Suleymanov, chairman of the board of the Azerbaijani Mine Action Agency, who spoke at the event, talked about the scale of the mine problem in Azerbaijan, Report informs.
Suleymanov noted that the Armenian armed forces have laid about 1.5 million mines in Karabakh and East Zangezur, thus destroying the clean ecosystem of these territories.
The event also included panel discussions on the topics of biodiversity protection and acceleration of ecological rehabilitation, the impact of mines on the ecosystem and innovative methods of ecological restoration after demining the territories. The participants of the event also discussed the implementation of the program to combat the mine threat in Azerbaijan.
