Ex-Bashkortostan deputy PM set to file cassation in major bribery case
The defence team of former Deputy Prime Minister of Bashkortostan Alan Marzaev, sentenced to 13 years in a high-security colony in Russia for accepting a 37 million-ruble bribe (around $481,162), plans to file a cassation appeal, lawyer Rasim Garifullin said.
Marzaev’s lawyer told TASS that he plans to take his case to the Supreme Court of Russia.
On February 19, the Supreme Court of Bashkortostan upheld the sentence issued by the Lenin District Court of Ufa in November 2025. Marzaev is also required to pay a fine of 561 million rubles (around $7,297,462), and the funds received as a bribe, along with a plot of land and two residential houses, have been confiscated by the state.
Between December 2023 and April 2024, the official, through an intermediary, received 10% of government contract sums from the leaders of the road construction company Dortransstroy in exchange for general patronage and assistance. During this period, six contracts were concluded with a total value exceeding 560 million rubles (around $7,285,000).
