FBI investigates former US counterterrorism chief Joe Kent
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating former United States National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent over alleged leaks of classified information, according to multiple media reports.
CBS News and Semafor reported that the investigation began before Kent’s departure from his post. Details of the alleged leaks have not been made public, and the FBI has not issued an official statement on the matter, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Kent resigned from the administration of President Donald Trump on March 17, citing differences over the war against Iran.
In an interview with conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson, Kent criticised the decision-making process ahead of US strikes on Iran, noting that Israel forced Trump's hand despite there being no evidence Iran posed an imminent threat to the US.
"A good deal of key decision-makers were not allowed to come and express their opinion to the president," Kent told Carlson. "There wasn't a robust debate."
