Finnish president proposes new city for Trump-Putin summit
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has suggested a new location for a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to Yle, he said the leaders could hold talks on the sidelines of the November G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
During his speech, the Finnish president also focused on nuclear weapons. He noted that Trump had ordered nuclear weapons tests in response to Russian and North Korean tests. NATO has also recently conducted its annual exercises.
President Stubb emphasised that the North Atlantic Alliance provides nuclear protection for Finland, as the United States, France, and the United Kingdom possess nuclear weapons.
“In the past, we, a small Finland, had to take care of this ourselves, but the situation in the world was different then. Now we participate in all the key structures,” Stubb said.
