Fire Department: Gas leak causes explosion in residential building in Iran PHOTO
Spokesman for Iran’s Tehran Fire Department Jalal Maleki has stated that an explosion occurred in a residential building on Qazvin Avenue, Abbasi Street, in Tehran.
The affected building, a three-story structure, was an older property where construction work, specifically the digging of a well, led to a gas leak, Caliber.Az reports via Iranian media.
This leak reportedly triggered the explosion, causing the complete collapse of the building.
Maleki noted that windows in approximately 12 nearby buildings were either cracked or shattered, while several buildings and vehicles suffered extensive damage. Initial reports indicate that the explosion resulted in widespread chaos, with 21 individuals suffering injuries.
Among the victims, 11 were hospitalized, while 10 others received medical treatment at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that the blast was powerful enough to cause the building to collapse, further complicating rescue efforts.
