Flooding in South Africa claims 25 lives, authorities say
At least 25 people have died following severe flooding in Limpopo, a northern province of South Africa, as authorities continue search and rescue operations for three people still reported missing.
The provincial government has urged residents to stay away from swollen rivers and dams after weeks of heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across the region, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The province’s Department of Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs said emergency teams remain deployed in several affected areas. Provincial minister Basikopo Makamu extended condolences to the families of those who have died.
Department spokesperson Amos Phago said Limpopo has been experiencing severe weather since December 2025.
Authorities have warned that further rainfall could worsen conditions and have appealed to the public to follow safety instructions as recovery efforts continue.
