Former ambassador: West not to act for Armenia’s economic development
Former ambassador Dzyunik Aghajanyan has said that Europe will never take steps for Armenia’s real economic development.
“Europe will never take steps for Armenia’s real economic development, because this contradicts the interests of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, which the EU considers priority partners in this region. European contribution to the development of the Armenian economy means a step against Türkiye and Azerbaijan as Ankara and Baku consider any strengthening of Armenia unacceptable,” Aghajanyan said, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
She did not rule out that at a certain stage, the West could have made promises that aroused the Armenian side’s optimistic expectations, but amid the reaction of Ankara and Baku, these promises were not fulfilled.
Aghajanyan does not see the humanitarian component in the promises made following the meeting to render financial support to Armenia.
“Moreover, we must take into account that various promises can be made. After the 44-day second Karabakh war, a promise was made to allocate 2.6 billion euros [$2.8 billion], and they are still talking about it. However, there is no chance for fulfilling these promises due to the positions of Türkiye and Azerbaijan,” Aghajanyan said.
She added that the West continued putting pressure on Armenia to abandon allied relations with Russia.
