Former Bloomberg executive, wife, and daughter found dead in South Carolina mansion PHOTO
Authorities in South Carolina are investigating the mysterious deaths of a wealthy couple and their young daughter, who were found lifeless inside their upscale home in Greer, a town northeast of Greenville.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 54-year-old Richard Samarel, his wife, 45-year-old Lina Maria Samarel, and their 9-year-old daughter, Samantha, were discovered on March 28 after a concerned neighbor alerted police, Caliber.Az reports quoting the New York Post.
Law enforcement officials have yet to reveal how the family died, declining to say whether the case is being treated as a homicide, accident, or other incident. However, in a brief statement, the sheriff’s office noted there is no apparent “threat to the public.”
Authorities also confirmed that other family members — believed to be the couple’s older children — were not home at the time, as they were in school when the incident occurred.
“As both the Coroner’s Office and our agency continue their investigations, more details will be shared at the appropriate time,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Richard Samarel was a former equities manager at Bloomberg LP before leaving the company in 2007. His wife, Lina Maria, a Colombian immigrant, worked for the US Department of Veterans Affairs. According to their social media profiles, the couple had been married since 2009 and lived in an expansive six-bedroom mansion valued at nearly $800,000.
While authorities have remained tight-lipped about the circumstances of their deaths, the shocking discovery has left the community in disbelief. Neighbors and friends have expressed their condolences online, remembering the Samarels as a well-respected family.
