Four terrorists detained in Istanbul over attack plot
Turkish authorities have detained four suspected members of the terrorist DHKP-C organisation in a joint counterterrorism operation in Istanbul, officials said.
The operation was carried out by Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and the General Directorate of Security (EGM) after authorities determined that the suspects were preparing attacks on strategic targets in the city, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Security teams from MİT and the Istanbul Police Department conducted coordinated, simultaneous raids on February 25, capturing four individuals who were allegedly in the final stages of preparing the planned attacks. The suspects were taken into custody.
DHKP-C, or the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front, is a Turkish Marxist militant group founded in 1994 that seeks to overthrow the government and establish a socialist regime. The group has carried out violent attacks, including targeting government officials. It is designated as a terrorist organisation by Türkiye, the United States and the European Union.
