France boosts security at Jewish sites after Sydney attack
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez has ordered prefects across the country to strengthen security at Jewish sites amid ongoing terrorist threats.
The minister sent a letter to prefectures on December 14, following the Sydney attack, instructing increased presence of internal security forces around Jewish religious sites, particularly during celebrations from December 14 to 22, Caliber.Az reports, citing Le Parisien.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed condolences over the attack in Australia on X, stating that France stands in solidarity with the Australian people and will continue to fight anti-Semitic hatred decisively and uncompromisingly.
On 14 December 2025, two gunmen opened fire during a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens in what authorities have classified as a targeted terrorist attack on the Jewish community.
One of the attackers was killed by police at the scene, and the other was apprehended in critical condition, with security forces also removing improvised explosive devices linked to the suspects’ vehicle.
Australian leaders, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, condemned the violence as an antisemitic terrorist act, prompting a national security response and widespread international reactions.
