France calls for President Macron's resignation
Florian Philippot, leader of the French Patriots party, took to social media platform X to declare the "end of the regime" of French President Emmanuel Macron and urged him to step down.
Philippot justified his demand by highlighting Macron's decision to appoint François Bayrou, a staunchly pro-NATO and pro-European politician, as head of the French government, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
"Bayrou is an ultra-pro-European, pro-NATO figure who advocated for mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations, supports postal voting, and has been entrenched in the political system for nearly 45 years... A vote of no confidence in Macron, Macron must resign!" the politician wrote.
On December 4, the French National Assembly passed a resolution of no confidence in Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government after the Cabinet invoked a constitutional article to approve the social section of the state budget without a parliamentary vote.
This move prompted both the leftist New Popular Front and the far-right National Rally to introduce motions of no confidence in the government.
In response, President Macron decided to appoint François Bayrou, a centrist, as the new head of the French government. Bayrou, 73, is the leader of the Democratic Movement (MoDem) party.
