France seeks deeper strategic partnership with Uzbekistan, envoy says
France regards Uzbekistan as one of its most important partners in Central Asia and is seeking to expand its political, economic, and educational engagement with the country, according to French Ambassador to Uzbekistan Aurélien Fouquet.
In an interview with Novastan, Fouquet said Paris is increasing its focus on Central Asia and aims to build a broad strategic partnership with Uzbekistan across multiple sectors.
The ambassador highlighted education as a key area of cooperation, revealing plans to establish a Franco-Uzbek university in Tashkent. The institution is expected to serve as a major platform for academic collaboration, student exchanges, and the development of joint educational programs between the two countries.
Fouquet also expressed support for the reform agenda of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, describing Uzbekistan as one of the region’s most dynamic and rapidly developing economies.
According to the ambassador, France sees significant potential for expanding economic cooperation with Uzbekistan and is interested in strengthening trade, investment, and business ties. He noted that deeper engagement with Tashkent aligns with France’s broader objective of diversifying its international partnerships and increasing its presence in Central Asia.
