France steps up security with 16,000 police for G7 gathering
France is stepping up security measures ahead of the G7 leaders' summit, which will be held in Évian-les-Bains, with more than 15,000 security personnel set to be deployed for the event.
The country is deploying a security operation on a scale comparable to that used during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Caliber.Az reports via French media.
Authorities have introduced QR code-based access passes, designated “blue” and “red” security zones, and reinforced police and gendarmerie cordons.
Around 16,000 law enforcement personnel will be involved in securing the event, including 500 motorcycle officers, river patrol boats, 64 squadrons of mobile gendarmes and CRS riot police units, as well as hundreds of investigators specialising in cybercrime and counterterrorism.
The operation will also involve bomb disposal teams, drone operators, helicopters, special forces units, and nearly 1,000 military personnel, primarily from the Air and Space Force.
The cost of the security measures has not yet been disclosed by official sources. The summit is scheduled for June 15-17 in Évian-les-Bains, in France’s Haute-Savoie region.
