Fraudsters exploit security fears in UAE to target Russian residents
A new fraud scheme targeting Russian nationals has emerged in the United Arab Emirates, particularly affecting those living in areas impacted by the ongoing regional conflict.
According to RIA Novosti, members of the community group Russians in Dubai reported a rise in such incidents.
The scammers reportedly contact potential victims shortly after explosions or missile attacks occur. During the calls, they introduce themselves as representatives of a supposed “Dubai Crisis Management” department — an entity that does not actually exist.
The callers then request sensitive information from their targets, including credentials for UAE Pass, details from Emirates ID, and verification codes used in SIM-swap procedures. With this information, the fraudsters can gain access to victims’ mobile numbers and ultimately their bank accounts.
Members of the community warned Russian residents not to trust such calls and urged them not to share any personal data with unknown individuals.
They also noted that the number of reported cases has increased amid the military operation launched by the US and Israel against Iran, which has also affected the United Arab Emirates.
