French-operated ship hit by "warning shots" in Strait of Hormuz
A vessel operated by French shipping group CMA CGM has come under what the company described as “warning fire” in the Strait of Hormuz, amid heightened tensions in the strategic waterway.
The incident occurred on April 18, according to a statement from CMA CGM, which said none of the crew members aboard the ship was injured, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The vessel, identified as Everglades, sustained damage after what reports described as an incident involving a collision. The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) cited by AFP, said the ship had been damaged, though no details were provided regarding the extent of the impact. International Maritime Organisation.
The ship is among several reported to have been exposed to fire from Iranian forces, following Tehran’s decision to reassess its earlier position on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Strait of Hormuz
Iranian officials have previously stated that restrictions in the area were linked to what they described as ongoing blockades of Iranian ports by the United States.
