Gabbard to release major investigation findings before leaving office
US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is set to resign at the end of June and plans to release findings from several high-profile investigations before leaving office, The Daily Wire has learned.
Gabbard announced that she would step down, saying her decision was driven by her husband’s health condition.
“Her wonderful husband, Abraham, has been recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, and she, rightfully, wants to be with him, bringing him back to good health as they currently fight a tough battle together,” US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social earlier.
She is expected to remain in her position until June 30. An intelligence official said she intends to publish results from multiple investigations, including probes into Havana Syndrome—formally known as Anomalous Health Incidents (AHIs)—the COVID-19 pandemic, alleged weaponisation of the federal government, the 2020 US presidential election, and other matters. The findings are expected to be released in weekly installments over the coming month.
Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence Aaron Lukas will serve as acting DNI after her departure, Trump confirmed.
Gabbard has served 15 months as Director of National Intelligence, during which she oversaw what supporters describe as efforts to reform and streamline the intelligence community, including declassifications, personnel changes, and cybersecurity modernization initiatives.
According to an intelligence official, her office has declassified more than 500,000 pages of previously withheld records as of May 2026. These included documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as files on Amelia Earhart’s disappearance and Biden administration materials concerning domestic terrorism strategy.
Her office also undertook what it described as a major restructuring initiative that reduced agency size by more than 40% and saved an estimated $700 million annually.
Gabbard has also focused on intelligence transparency efforts, including scrutiny of the 2016 US election and broader intelligence community practices. Earlier this year, her office said it had completed a major modernization and cybersecurity investment program across the intelligence community.
In her farewell message to the president, she wrote: “I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and thorough transition over the coming weeks so that you and your team experience no disruption in leadership or momentum.”
“It has been a profound honor to serve the American people as DNI,” she added.
