Georgia's first transgender woman killed in Tbilisi
Georgia's first transgender model, Kesaria Abramidze, was found dead in her home in the Didi Digomi neighbourhood of Tbilisi.
Abramidze, formerly known as Beso Abramidze, was 37 years old and publicly announced her gender transition in 2014, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
According to authorities, she sustained multiple stab wounds, and forensic investigators are currently working at the scene.
A criminal case has been opened under the article of “Premeditated murder,” and police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Rustavi 2 TV channel has reported that a young man is suspected of the murder. TV Pirveli has identified the suspect as 26-year-old Beka Jiani, an employee of Rati's Bar in Tbilisi. According to reports, the conflict may have stemmed from the publication of a photo of the two together on social media. Police are currently searching for Jiani as part of their investigation into the case.
The tragic death of Kesaria Abramidze has shocked Georgia's LGBTQ+ community, raising concerns about the ongoing violence and discrimination faced by transgender individuals in the region.
