Georgia's ruling party opposes snap parliamentary elections

21 March 2023 18:14

Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party Irakli Kobakhidze has said that only representatives of the radical opposition want snap parliamentary elections to be held in Georgia.

There will be no snap voting, he noted, Gazeta.Ru reports.

“Radical opposition members are dissatisfied with snap elections, the electoral system, the two-year term of office, as well as ratings. They know very well that there will be no snap elections. The elections will be held within the constitutional time frame - in October 2024," Kobakhidze said.

The chairman of Georgian Dream noted that preparation for the voting will begin according to plan - in a few months.
He also stressed that the opposition should focus on this, rather than on "self-destructive rhetoric".
