Tehran blames adversaries for Strait of Hormuz crisis at UN
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said that resolving the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz depends on halting military actions against Iran and lifting what Tehran describes as a maritime blockade.
Speaking at a special session of the UN Economic and Social Council, Iravani stated that the current situation in the strategic waterway, along with its global economic repercussions, is “solely and exclusively the responsibility of those who started the war against Iran and their regional allies.”
He emphasised that the Islamic Republic remains committed to diplomatic efforts and stability in the region, reaffirming its readiness for “constructive engagement” aimed at restoring normal conditions, energy security, and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. However, he stressed that such progress is contingent on specific conditions, “provided that aggression and military escalation stop and the maritime blockade is lifted.”
