Iran plans new Strait of Hormuz shipping mechanism, lawmaker says
Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, said Tehran is preparing a new mechanism to manage maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes.
In a post published on X, Azizi stated that the initiative is being developed “within the framework of national sovereignty and the guarantee of international trade security” and will involve a designated shipping route managed by Iran, Caliber.Az reports.

According to Azizi, only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran would be permitted to use the route under the proposed system. He also said that fees would be charged for what he described as “specialized services” provided through the mechanism.
“The route will remain closed to the operators of the so-called ‘freedom project,’” Azizi wrote, without specifying which countries or entities he was referring to.
