Georgia: Several protesters detained over foreign agent bill
Police officers have detained several protesters outside the Georgian parliament building in Tbilisi, who oppose adopting a bill on foreign agents in the republic.
According to preliminary data, law enforcement officers detained three to five people. Detentions continue, Sputnik Georgia reports.
At the rear entrance to the Georgian parliament building, protesters clashed with law enforcement officers. Protesters threw eggs at police cars and at the parliament building.
On March 2, it became known that there was a scuffle among deputies in the Georgian parliament over the bill on foreign agents.
Opposition Georgian politicians tried to prevent the start of consideration of the draft law "On transparency of foreign influence", which involves the creation of a register of subjects, media and non-governmental organisations that receive funding from foreign states, RIA Novosti reports.
Opponents of the bill in parliament met supporters of the initiative from among the deputies with posters with the words "You are the authors of the Russian law!" and "We are losing Europe!". Some opposition deputies who tried to disrupt the parliament session were taken out of the hall by force, which triggered the brawl.
