Georgia to welcome it's first technohub in Imereti region
The first technology hub in Georgia will open in the city of Kutaisi in the former parliament building in the Fall of 2025.
This was announced by Avtandil Kasradze, the Head of the Georgian Agency for Innovation and Technology under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Caliber.Az reports citing Sputnik Georgia.
The tech hub project has been allocated 12 million Georgian Lari ($4.26 million) and is being developed by the Agency for Innovation and Technology.
"All necessary work is progressing according to plan to ensure that Georgia's first technology hub opens in Kutaisi by fall 2025," Kasradze stated while inspecting the project site.
According to Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Irakli Nadareishvili, the tech hub is an important project not only for Georgia but for the entire region.
"The regional significance of the project is determined not only by its scale but also by its unique multifunctionality. On the one hand, it is, of course, an educational initiative—an international IT and technology school for students will be established here, designed for at least 1,000 children," said Nadareishvili.
Additionally, the tech hub will include a unique science and technology museum for the region, the International Training Center of "Sakpatenti" (National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia), and more.
"Of course, the primary and leading direction will be modern technologies," Nadareishvili emphasized.
According to the Deputy Minister, the technology hub will also house Georgia’s largest tech park and its industrial innovation laboratory (FabLab), a 3D printing lab, an electronics lab, a robotics lab, drone, STEAM, IoT, virtual and augmented reality labs, as well as other experimental spaces for students and startups.
Additionally, the hub will feature creative technology centers TUMO and powerful data processing and artificial intelligence competency centers.
