Georgian FM highlights US influence in Azerbaijan-Armenia talks
The United States has played a pivotal role in mediating tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia, actively supporting initiatives to normalize relations and promote stability in the South Caucasus, Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili stated.
The minister emphasized that Georgia is not merely an observer in these processes but an active participant. She noted that strengthening Georgia’s role as a mediator will benefit all parties involved and, above all, advance Georgia’s own national interests, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
Georgian authorities are pursuing a policy of “strategic patience” while anticipating a positive reset in relations with the United States, Botchorishvili underlined.
“We are in a mode of strategic patience and expect that at a certain stage, there will be a reset in relations between Georgia and the US, and this reset will be positive,” she added.
The Foreign Minister noted that over the past four years, relations under the Biden administration have significantly deteriorated, with interactions between the two countries often framed negatively. A notable achievement, she added, was the removal of the MEGOBARI Act from the legislative agenda—a proposal initiated during the Biden administration that called for sanctions against Georgian politicians and their families for “erosion of democracy.”
