Georgian media reacts to Ilham Aliyev’s strategic focus on transport innovation in Baku summit
Statements made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a transport-related summit held in Baku on January 28 have captured significant attention from Georgian media outlets.
Prominent news websites with extensive readership, including sputnik-georgia.ru, realnews.ge, aktual.ge, qafqazturk.com, and 24news.ge, as well as television channels "1TV" and "Imedi," have all published reports detailing the president's speech, Caliber.Az reports.
The reports highlight President Aliyev's remarks on the considerable resistance faced by Azerbaijan during the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project.
His comments also touched on the pressures exerted on Georgia in relation to this initiative, the Zangezur Corridor, and the future of the peace agreement with Armenia.
Thus, President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's pivotal role in Eurasian transport during a meeting dedicated to transportation issues, emphasizing the country's strategic importance as a hub for the East-West and North-South transport corridors.
“It is impossible to imagine the transport map of Eurasia without Azerbaijan, without its transport infrastructure,” Aliyev said.
“Currently, the East-West and North-South transport corridors pass through our territory. The volume of cargo transported along these corridors is increasing by the year. In addition to physical infrastructure, other steps have been taken to ensure more efficient transportation of cargo, including attention paid to digitalization. New formats of cooperation with neighbouring countries have been created and joint ventures, joint companies have been established. In short, Azerbaijan today is one of the indispensable transport hubs of Eurasia,” the Azerbaijani leader noted.
President Aliyev specially emphasized the Zangezur corridor project: "I would like to mention the Zangezur corridor among the new projects. The Zangezur corridor project was proposed by Azerbaijan.”
“After our victory in the Second Karabakh War, this issue was brought to the international agenda and entered international terminology. Today, the Zangezur corridor is a widely accepted term and expression. Of course, we are taking practical steps for the opening of this corridor,” he added.
The head of state noted: “It is impossible to imagine the transport map of Eurasia without Azerbaijan, without its transport infrastructure.”
