Georgian PM accuses West of inconsistent policies on Russia
Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, has criticized Western appeals for Tbilisi to join sanctions against Russia, describing such calls as inappropriate given the broader economic context.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media, Kobakhidze highlighted the European Union’s continued purchases of Russian goods, noting that the EU itself “pays very large sums of money — this is acknowledged by European bureaucracy itself.” He said that in this situation, making statements against Georgia is “completely inappropriate.”
Kobakhidze further pointed out that several European countries considered pro-Western also do not impose sanctions on Russia, and yet they are not subjected to similar pressure.
“This clearly demonstrates double standards and shows that they have specific interests against our country,” he added, underscoring Tbilisi’s view that Western criticism of Georgia reflects geopolitical biases rather than consistent policy principles.
