Georgian PM calls European Parliament resolution on media 'insulting'
European Parliament (EP) resolution on the Georgian media situation is insulting.
Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili made the remark while speaking to journalists on Saturday, TASS reports.
"The resolution, which is permeated with lies and inaccurate information, is insulting. I saw irrationality in it as well. Everything reasonable has been taken out of the resolution. Of course, there are a lot of factual inaccuracies, a lot of lies, which is regrettable," he said.
Georgia is not begging for anything, Georgians are one of the civilized nations, the head of the government continued.
"The attitude towards Georgia and the Georgian people shown by 300 MEPs has become irresponsible and offensive," he concluded.
On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the media situation in Georgia. The document includes a call to consider imposing personal sanctions against the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili for his allegedly negative influence on Georgian democracy. The resolution also calls on the Georgian authorities to release former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Nika Gvaramia, former general director of the opposition TV channel Mtavari Arch.
