Opposition files legal bid to annul Armenian election outcome
The Strong Armenia bloc, led by Russian-Armenian businessman Samvel Karapetyan, has filed a petition with Armenia's Constitutional Court seeking to invalidate the results of the parliamentary elections held on June 7.
The announcement was made by the bloc's spokesperson, Marianna Kagramanyan, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Kagramanyan said that on June 19, Strong Armenia representative Aram Vardevanyan submitted an application to the Constitutional Court challenging the outcome of the National Assembly elections.
"Based on widespread and organized violations of the electoral process allegedly orchestrated by the authorities, the bloc is requesting that the Constitutional Court annul the Central Electoral Commission's June 14, 2026 decision on the results of the June 7 National Assembly elections and either declare the election results invalid or order a second round of voting," she stated.
The legal challenge comes days after Armenia's Central Electoral Commission published the final election results on June 14.
According to the official tally, the ruling Civil Contract party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan secured more than 49.7 percent of the vote, a result that enables the party to form a government without coalition partners.
The Strong Armenia bloc finished second with approximately 23.3 percent of the vote, while the Armenia bloc, led by former President Robert Kocharyan, received more than 9.9 percent.
Meanwhile, the Prosperous Armenia party, headed by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, failed to surpass the 4 percent electoral threshold required for parliamentary representation, securing approximately 3.9 percent of the vote.
