Georgian PM expresses confidence in EU accession soon
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has said that Tbilisi is maintaining its course towards European integration a year after submitting an official application for joining the EU.
“This decision became a "new page in the history" of Georgia,” Garibashvili noted, Gazeta.Ru reports citing the Georgian First Channel.
“A year has passed since the historic day of Georgia's official application for EU membership. On this day, a new page in our history was turned. Then, the recognition of Georgia’s European perspective by the European Council brought us even closer to membership in the European family of free nations,” he said.
He pointed out that the Georgian leadership has stepped up efforts towards European integration to get closer to the European way of life and standards.
The Georgian prime minister also added that he expects a successful entry into the EU.
“I believe that the historical process, which became irreversible a year ago, will soon be crowned with Georgia's full membership in the EU,” Garibashvili said.
Georgia applied for EU membership along with Ukraine and Moldova, but did not receive the status of a candidate as Kyiv and Chisinau.
