Germany hopes for mutually beneficial resolution to EU-US tariff dispute
The German Economy Ministry has stated that it does not comment on the ruling by the US Federal Court of International Trade, which recently blocked the implementation of US President Donald Trump's decision to impose new import duties. The ministry emphasised that it anticipates a mutually beneficial resolution to the ongoing tariff dispute between the European Union and the United States.
A ministry representative explained that it was not possible to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings in the US. However, the spokesperson expressed confidence that negotiations between the European Commission and the US government could lead to a constructive and mutually advantageous outcome, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
"We remain confident that a mutually beneficial solution can be reached in the course of negotiations between the European Commission and the US government," the ministry's representative stated.
The US Federal Court of International Trade ruled to block the implementation of Trump’s April 2 announcement of retaliatory tariffs on goods from 185 countries and regions. The court determined that the president had overstepped his authority in issuing the tariffs. The ruling also invalidated previously imposed duties on imports from Canada, China, and Mexico. However, it left in place existing tariffs on automobiles, auto parts, steel, and aluminium.
The Trump administration has indicated that it intends to appeal the decision to the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
