Germany jets intercept Russian reconnaissance aircraft over Baltic
Germany’s two Eurofighter jets have intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Ilyushin Il-20 over the Baltic Sea.
The German Armed Forces’ office (Bundeswehr) in NATO confirmed the news on Twitter, according to RBC-Ukraine.
“A Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft was intercepted by our Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) over the Baltic Sea during the weekend. Two Eurofighter jets took off from Germany’s Laage town,” the message said.
QRA works daily to protect the airspace over Germany and NATO.
The incident over the Baltic Sea occurred on April 30. The Russian Il-20 crossed the international airspace and was heading towards Germany’s Rugen island.
Eurofighter fighters forced the Russian aircraft to change the direction accompanying it until it is out of the German airspace.
