Greece attempts to disrupt NATO's Steadfast Dart 2025 exercises
Greece attempted to derail one of NATO’s largest exercises, Steadfast Dart 2025, but was compelled to retreat in the face of legitimate objections from Türkiye.
The Greek administration sought to disrupt the exercises by making demands that rejected Türkiye's rights in the Aegean Sea, even threatening to pull out of the drills, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Greece insisted that aircraft participating in the exercises obtain flight clearance within the Athens flight information region and verify that they had the authority to conduct search-and-rescue operations in the Aegean.
However, Türkiye responded firmly, declaring that these unilateral demands violated international law. In response to Greece's threats, NATO's headquarters assessed the situation and concluded that Athens' excessive demands were unacceptable. The exercises proceeded in a manner that respected Türkiye's rights.
While Greece's attempt to use NATO for political leverage once again failed, Türkiye reaffirmed its determination and military strength in the region.
