Historian: France trying to destroy culture of Kanak people
Historian from New Caledonia Jean-Yves Poedi has said that the French government is trying to destroy the culture of the Kanak people.
Poedi made these remarks at a conference in the Azerbaijani parliament dedicated to “History, modern challenges and the expected future”, Report informs.
He noted that the Kanak people have an ancient history and culture dating back almost 3,000 years.
“France must not interfere. However, this country is trying to wipe out our culture and make our people dependent on Western culture,” he added.
A conference on “History, modern challenges and expected future” is being held in the Azerbaijani parliament.
Chairman of the Azerbaijani parliamentary Human Rights Committee Zahid Oruj, Chair of the New Caledonian Congress Committee on Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Sustainable Development, Energy, Transport and Communications Naisseline Omayra and Azerbaijani MPs are taking part in the conference.
