Hospital wall collapse in India kills at least seven, including children
At least seven people, including three children, have died after a section of a hospital complex wall collapsed in Bengaluru, in southern India, according to reports.
The Times of India reported that three others were injured in the incident, which involved a portion of the wall approximately 2.5 metres long giving way.
Local authorities said people had been standing near the structure, taking shelter from sudden and severe weather conditions, when the collapse occurred.
Among the dead were also street vendors who had been sheltering near the wall during heavy rainfall, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar said.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the victims’ families and said that support would be provided to those affected.
The incident took place amid abrupt weather changes in the region. After a spell of heat and humidity, Bengaluru was hit by heavy rain, strong winds and hail, causing widespread disruption, including fallen trees, flooding and damage to infrastructure.
