14 February 2025 11:24

Human remains, consisting of bone fragments, were discovered during construction work in the village of Khidirli in the Aghdam district of Azerbaijan.

An investigation has been launched into the discovery, Caliber.Az reports.

Moreover, excavations in territories recently reclaimed from Armenian control have led to the discovery of 18 mass graves, containing the remains of 169 individuals, the State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Citizens has announced.

Gazanfar Ahmadov, Secretary of the Commission, revealed the findings in a local media report, noting that 59 of the deceased were individuals who had been unaccounted for since the First Karabakh War.

Further excavations, conducted as part of large-scale construction and reconstruction efforts in the region, have also uncovered the remains of 259 people. Of these, 16 identities have been confirmed as those of previously reported missing persons.

The Commission currently holds a list of 3,890 individuals still missing from the 1991-1994 First Karabakh War, which includes 3,171 military personnel and 719 civilians, among them women, children, and the elderly.

Additionally, 872 individuals are known to have survived the conflict, with 253 of them being taken to Armenia. The Commission has also listed six servicemen as missing from the 2020 Armenia-Azerbaijan war.
