ICESCO delegation tours Azerbaijan's Aghdam Commends restoration efforts
On the margins of the 12th meeting of ICESCO’S Islamic World Heritage Committee (IWHC), held in Shusha on October 8-10, the participants visited Aghdam to witness the region's restoration efforts.
The group toured the restored “Imarat” complex and the historic Juma Mosque, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
They were briefed on the graves of notable figures from the Karabakh khan dynasty and learned about the restoration projects conducted in collaboration with Italian specialists.
The visiting delegates expressed their appreciation to Azerbaijan for hosting the meeting and condemned the acts of vandalism that conducted in the region.
The 12th meeting of the Islamic World Heritage Committee, was held as part of the celebration of Shusha as Culture Capital in the Islamic World for 2024.
The meeting examined Member States’ nomination files of historical sites and cultural elements for inscription on ICESCO’s Islamic World Heritage List, reviewed the vision and activities of ICESCO’s Heritage Centre, presented its 2024 publications, and discussed major challenges facing the Centre.
