Israeli Navy leadership changes hands as Guy Levy takes command
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) has announced a change in command of its naval forces, with Major General Guy Levy officially assuming the position of Chief of Staff of the Israeli Navy, replacing Major General Tal Politis, who held the post for the past two years.
The ceremony took place at the Rabin Base (Kirya) under the leadership of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Eyal Harel, and was attended by commanders, service members, their families, and invited guests.
Harel highlighted the importance of the leadership transition as a symbol of strengthening the navy’s capabilities and Israel’s ability to address cross-border challenges, develop partnerships, and reinforce long-term strategic processes.
Outgoing Chief of Staff Tal Politis emphasised the contribution of all naval units to Israel’s security, noting: “For the past two and a half years, we have been in a state of war. (…) Naval personnel have operated and continue to operate across all maritime theatres, ensuring the functional continuity of the state along its sea routes and protecting its residents.”
The newly appointed commander, Guy Levy, who has served in the navy for nearly 30 years, pledged to support all naval units and continue developing the force as a strategically significant element of the IDF. “I am confident that together we will accomplish this important mission and adapt the fleet to the challenges of the future,” he said.
