Independence movements to gather in Baku to challenge French colonial legacy
On July 17-18, Baku will be the venue for a significant gathering — the inaugural congress bringing together leaders from more than 15 political parties and movements advocating for independence from French colonial rule.
These movements represent regions like Corsica, Melanesia, Polynesia, the Caribbean, and the Antilles, which have historical ties to France.
The congress is organized by the People's Association for the Freedom of Guadeloupe, with support from the Baku Initiative Group, Caliber.Az reports.
This gathering aims to foster closer unity among participants in their struggle for independence and to strategize effective actions aimed at challenging and overcoming French colonialism.
Discussions will focus on sharing successful practices and strategies for achieving self-determination in their respective regions.
The Baku Initiative Group, formed on July 6, 2023, during the "Towards Total Elimination of Colonialism" conference in Baku, emerged from discussions held alongside the ministerial meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement, chaired by Azerbaijan.
The group is committed to supporting the global movement for freedom, particularly for people still grappling with colonial legacies in the 21st century.
