India tests dual-role UAV-launched precision strike missile VIDEO
India has completed development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in air-to-ground and air-to-air modes, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) said.
The trials were conducted at a test range near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, using an integrated Ground Control System to command and control the weapon system, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Press Information Bureau of India.
The system is designed to automate launch and readiness operations and was tested for engagement of ground targets as well as aerial targets, including drones and helicopters.
The ULPGM-V3 has been developed by Research Centre Imarat as the nodal laboratory, with support from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory.
Production arrangements involve Bharat Dynamics Limited and Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Limited. The system has been integrated on UAVs developed by NewSpace Research and Technologies.
According to the statement, the missile system has been developed within India’s domestic defence industrial ecosystem, including participation from MSMEs, and is positioned for serial production following completion of trials.
