Indonesia pauses engagement in Trump-proposed Gaza Board of Peace
Indonesia has temporarily suspended all discussions related to the proposed Gaza initiative under the US Peace Council put forward by Donald Trump, citing the growing military escalation in the Middle East.
According to Middle East Monitor, the announcement was made by Indonesia’s foreign minister Sugiono.
The minister said the decision was prompted by the latest escalation involving Iran, which is affecting the foreign policy priorities of countries participating in the initiative. Jakarta intends to consult with partners in the Persian Gulf region to evaluate the potential consequences of the ongoing attacks before deciding on its next steps.
Indonesia’s involvement in the initiative has also faced criticism at home. Several political and religious groups argue that participation in the US-backed plan could undermine Indonesia’s long-standing support for the Palestinian cause.
The Indonesian Ulema Council has also called on the government to immediately withdraw from the initiative, stating that it appears ineffective amid continuing military activity in the region.
