International Caspian conference kicks off in Azerbaijan
Baku hosts an international conference in a hybrid format on the topic "Fluctuations in the Caspian Sea level under climate change, forecasts and adaptation measures" organised by the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry and supported by the United Nations Development Program.
Along with representatives of the Caspian littoral countries, the event is attended by Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Ibrahim Guliyev, Secretary of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Abdalah Mokssit, Acting Resident of Azerbaijan's representation in the UN Development Program Charu Bist, SOCAR Vice-President Khalig Mammadov and other officials, according to Report.
Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Mukhtar Babayev addressed the conference participants in a video format.
The presentation provided information about the current problems of the Caspian Sea, measures taken in Azerbaijan in this area, national and regional adaptation plans and the importance of regional cooperation on the example of the "Framework Convention for the Protection of the Environment of the Caspian Sea".
The conference with the participation of experts from the Caspian littoral countries, representatives of international organisations and foreign experts will discuss current and expected fluctuations in the level of the Caspian Sea, as well as issues of expanding cooperation to determine national and regional adaptation measures taking into account the climate and sea-level forecasts.
